League Match       20th April 2008

Apollo FC              3               1               Springfield Tigers

Today was our last game of the season.  It was against Springfield tigers.  A friendly, fair and competitive team. We haven’t played competitive football for 5 weeks so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  We had our striker  covering the keeper position today so we knew the play would be different.  We took the game to them and our persistent attacking play paid off with some great team and individual hard work.  We definitely took our chances and scored 3 blinding goals scored by 3 different players which, for me and Ells, was great to see.  Everyone on the team today gave it their best, with no exception.  It was a great way to end such a hard season for us, but also a great way to start the 11-a-side season to come.  We have been working towards 11-a-side since January, playing players in the positions that we hope they can play in and have subbed respectively.  We have all had to become a team that works together for each other and we have not always got the results  that we deserved but we played good football and never gave up.  I would like to thank the families and new member families for all their support and understanding at the matches but the biggest THANK YOU goes to all the boys for their hard work and commitment and we hope it continues into the next season.  Well done boys!  Well played Springfield.! Great game!

League Match  16th march 2008

Orpington Blue    7               2               Apollo FC

Although we lost, this game contained good play.  Orpington Blue are a good fair team which made an exciting match.  We went 2 nil down early on the first half but held them off for the rest of the half.  The boys really locked together and played for each other.  The second half saw Orpington score another 2 goals early on but the boys never dropped their heads and kept battling.  The first goal came for us with a lovely weighted ball from Bayley crossed through to Ciaran who drove the shot across the goalie and into the net.  This gave us a lift but we then conceded another 2 goals.  We still battled on and managed to score another goal when Ciaran passed the ball across the goal, with Dylan putting pressure on the defender, they slid the ball into their own goal.  Orpington then retaliated with yet another.  This was a hard but fair game in horrible conditions.  Good play boys! Well done Orpington Blue!

League Match 2nd March 2008

Apollo FC              1               4               Newtown Tigers

Today's game was a hard fought game, which was end to end the first half.  Although we went 2 nil down, we continued to push and chance our arm a bit and nearly paid the price, but for George doing some great goalie work.  The second half saw some solid work and effort .  After ten minutes we got our breakthrough.  With some good team play , Connor put away a good shot to make it 2 - 1.  We continued to put pressure on them but with no joy.  The last five minutes saw the game swing in their favour and two goals conceded saw us off for good.  The team work rate was good.  We seem to be playing for each other, which is always a good sign.  Some hard work in training is on the cards, so be prepared boys.  Well played Newtown Tigers.

League Match 17th February 2008

Teviot White          1               1               Apollo FC

Well!  What a difference a week can make.  The running off the ball, the passing, the team work, it was all there today.  Every player played their part and kept the belief in each other.  An all round performance that makes Elliott and myself proud to be your coaches.  Once again we had to come back from a scrambled goal, but come back we did.  It was good to see what we had practiced in training, actually used on the pitch.  Our goal was well worked and finished off with a great strike from Connor.  We continued to make some good chances and defended in numbers, which was good to see.  All in all, this was a pleasing match to watch as a spectator, with plenty of end to end action.  Well played boys!  A hard game and a well earned point.  See you Thursday.

League Match 10th February 2008

Orping Twn Wh    4               0               Apollo FC

This is the second time we have met this team with no result.  I was disappointed in our efforts, especially after a great performance last week.  It’s no good loosing week in week out if we are not going to learn from our mistakes and change our fortune.  The results so far had not reflected our performance, but this one did.  It was a poor performance and nothing more can be said.  I would like to thank Jack for his hard work and determination, which at times saved us and pushed us forward, but he could not do this on his own and needed his team mates to step up, but it didn’t happen.  See you at training boys!

League Match 3rd February 2008

Apollo FC              2               3               Cray Wdrs

Another new team to us and we seemed to take too long to wake up so, therefore went 3 - 0 down quite quickly.  We were playing good football but not at any pace.  Then the lights seemed to come on and we started to play and the pace livened up.  The passing was really good quality and all of a sudden we were back in the game.  Harry opened the scoring for us and then Bayley followed up with a shot from the halfway line that bounced over the goalie and made it 3 - 2.  We didn’t want half time to come as we had now the belief and the drive.  The second half was against the wind and at times we had to dig in deep to keep in the game.  George G made a superb save that kept us in the game and we made a brilliant break but just could not finish the move.  Time eventually ran out for us but I think Cray Wdrs knew they had been in a good match.  If team spirit and belief could win games, then we would have been the winners today.  We are playing good football and I hope it continues.  Well played Apollo.  Keep it up!

League Match 27th January 2008

Petts Wd Cond     6               1               Apollo FC

Todays game against Petts Wood Condors was not as expected.  We kept our shape and at times looked very impressive, but the difference was their finishing.  We kept going and didn’t give up as we could have done so easily.  The score was not important to me, as we had lost the game in the first half.  The second half showed that we still have a fighting spirit and the ability to play some good football.  All we can do is keep playing the type of football that we want to play and not surrender.  We can only learn from these games by taking what we did right and try to correct where we went wrong.  Again, well played boys, see you all Thursday.

League Match 20th January 2008

Apollo FC              3               2               Phoenix Pumas

Today, it was a pleasure to manage the boys with the team playing for each other.  I thought this game was going to be hard and it was.  Phoenix have always been a very competitive, but a good fair team.  We went 2 - 0 down in the first 10 minutes, but we didn’t drop our heads.  If anything, we upped our game and grew with every minute that passed.  Harry stepped up to open our account after some really good team play that gave him his chance.  It was good to see, even with the team players being rotated we kept our shape and our drive.  The second half we rode our luck, but kept on pushing for an equalizer which came 10 minutes into the 2nd half, with a good through pass from Connor and  a powerful driven shot from Bayley that left the keeper flat footed on the line.  Rotating the players again, we continued to drive on.  Our defense was awake to cut out any breakaway attacks and support the midfield play. With our keeper performing some excellent stops, he gave the team more confidence to go forward.  Once again with some more dogged work we opened up their defense for Harry to take his second and put us in  front.  Phoenix piled on the pressure and at times looked like they could have evened it up.  The best thing for me, was the attitude, positioning and the team play and spirit which was excellent.  Lets hope it can continue.  Brilliant play boys!  Another exciting game with Phoenix.  If there was a player of the day award today then every player would have got one.

League Match 6th January 2008

Apollo FC              0               3               Eltham Town Lions

The first game of the second half of the season and also first game in a new division.  It’s the first time we have met Eltham Town Lions who proved to be a good solid competitive side.   There was some good performances all over the pitch today, which was a good sign,  as we held our positions with one eye on becoming an eleven a side team.  This season will be a learning curve for the boys heading towards September.  All in all, a good game.

League Match 25th November

Apollo FC              2               1               Welling Utd Blue

The last game of the Autumn season and what a great game!  First time we have met Welling Utd, who turned out to be another fair, good competitive team, which makes the game so much more enjoyable.  After taking a 2 - 0 lead at the first half, we started the second in a more defensive mode which lead to us conceding a goal.  Changing the team around again we managed to hold on to our lead and created more chances putting Welling Utd on the back foot once again.  All in all a good game, a well deserved win, which should secure our 4th position in our division which is the highest we have been (watch out for the nose bleeds lads)  Brilliant boys!  Well played Welling Utd!

League Match 18th November

Russellers             1               5               Apollo FC

The Russellers are friends of old, a good fair team .  Apollo started off well and maintained good football throughout this game.  All players that were subbed and put back on, played their part in this match.  Elliott and myself believed this to be the best all round team effort of the season, as we didn’t need to shout half as much as usual.  Harry and Bayley opened the scoring with some good play through the middle.  At half time we were 2 - 0 up but felt that the Russellers could come back at us if we didn’t maintain our concentration and awareness of each other.  The second half began in the same mood and performance of the first half, even with the changes made.  This was a good sign.  As we pressed on, a proud  Dylan scored his first goal of the season. Shortly after, Harry scored another, but although it took a slight deflection it was awarded to him by Elliott as he done exactly what Elliott had instructed him to do from a corner kick.  The game went end to end after this and we began to tire slightly.  The Russellers then pulled back a very good goal which would have beaten any keeper in this league.  Bayley went on to  crack possibly the best shot of the day, which rebounded of the crossbar and  into an oncoming Connor who calmly headed the ball into the top corner while others watched on.  Not forgetting the Russellers part in this match, who played well.  All in all though a very positive match for us.  See you Thursday boys!

League Match 11th November

Apollo FC              2               1               St Mores Junior Colts

Today’s game kicked off after the 2 min silence in respect of remembrance day.  It was an end to end game.  The scoring opened with a throw in from Bayley to Harry who knocked it on for Connor who happily placed it in the back of the net.  This seemed to settle the boys, although St Mores always looked ready to react to any mistake that was made.  The 2nd half saw Connor make a brilliant clearance up to Harry, who was just past the halfway line.  He carried the ball through into the goal area and slotted the ball past the keeper.  St Mores then started to come back at the boys as we began to sit too deep.  They reaped the benefit of their efforts with a well taken goal.  From there on in, it was a very close game, with lots of chances.  We found St Mores to be a good competitive team which isn’t reflected in some of their previous results.  Well played boys!

League Match 4th November

Newtown Tigers   7               2               Apollo FC

Today we lost 7 - 2.  On the up side, we played much better, got more chances then we have ever had, proving there is no lack of creation, just a lack of finishing.  The game itself wasn’t disappointing, just the result.  There were some very good performances all round.   We just need to make the most of our chances when given.  The score line makes it sound like we had a really bad defense. But, it was just simple errors that allowed them to score.   Things we will have to deal with.  Keep trying boys!

Selkent Cup Games

St More Juniors   1               2               Apollo FC

This first match was a good all round performance, although we went 1 - 0 down, by what could only be called a lucky break.  With a change in the second half, we pulled the game around and had a good spell of football and scored 2 goals.  St Mores then charged on and made it an uneasy finish to the game.  All in all, it was a good match.  Great to see our goal drought  at an end.  Well played boys!

Goal Scorers                                            Ciaran, Connor

Apollo FC              0               4               Orpington Twn Blue

Second game was a different kettle of fish as they say.  This is a B division team full of confidence.  Reverting back to our original line up, we held them to a 1 - 0 score line at half time.  Changing the team around to rest tired legs, was maybe, not the managers best decision, as we began to struggle with their passing and movement.  As heads dropped, it began to be a damage limitation exercise, which ended 4 - 0.  Hey! It could have been worse!  We can only hope we can learn from games like these.  See you Thursday boys!!!

League Match 21st October

Apollo FC              0               2               Dulwich Hamlet

Today’s result wasn’t quite expected from the performance given.  Although we showed good work throughout the game, we were let down by our marking in the remaining ten minutes and by not finishing at least 12 plus chances that we had.  Although he didn’t have much to do today, George G made some good decisions which kept us in the battle.  Players that stood out today, for their team effort and hard graft, were Bayley, Connor, and Jack.  Well played Dulwich Hamlet, an exciting game!

pace and they started to look dangerous.  Unfortunately, we conceded a penalty that was a rocket of a shot which George G brilliantly pushed out only for Leeford to react first and score.  Harry went on to score a shot that filtered through the players into the back of the net.  We then went on to score another when Harry passed the ball through for Ciaran to place the ball in the back of the goal securing our win.  Well done boy’s.  It’s great to see them rewarded for all their efforts.  Well played Leeford.
